Create Trello lists to track individuals cards or tasks

I must be missing something here, but I think I should be able to create lists that will show all the tasks/cards that are assigned to a certain member.  So one board will have multiple lists.  Each list will be for each team member and each list will show the cards that are associated with that team member.  A quick board view of each members tasks.  So 1 task that has 2 members would show in each member list.

I cannot find a way to do this.  How would I best set up something like this?

Trello cards are like post it notes. So a board is like a whiteboard on a wall that has post its on it.  Cards don’t exist in multiple places at the same time. 

You could make a board that had a list for each persons name but those cards wouldn’t show on any other board (or in any other list).

You can create a card with a checklist which contains 2 items.

Each  item is converted to card which is assigned to one member.
