Malcolm Lack October 23, 2018

I am trying to add 2 extra columns in our sprint board. I have added the columns now need to map to a status not sure how to go about that get this message in the new columns

This column will not show on the board without a status

Where do I add the status?

many thanks

Board -> Configuration -> Columns

You drag the available status from where they are now into the columns you want them in.  If you are missing status, look for the "add status" near the top right, and if you don't have that, you'll need an admin to amend your workflow to add more.

Hi Malcolm,

The reply above expects you have already created or added the new statuses in your workflow used by the project.

When you have, go to the page mentioned by Nic to the right-most corner, there should be unassociated statuses there.

Drag these statuses over.

Ok, you need to be the right sort of admin (there's three types in Jira, I can't guess what type you are from just "admin rights" and it's now an essay answer on what each can do in certain circumstances).

Go to the project setup again, and look at workflows this time.  Descned into it and find the workflow in use for your board.  If you are the right type of admin (Jira or System), then you'll have the option to edit it.  There you can add new status to the workflow.  When you save it, the status will become available on the board column configs.

Note, when adding status to a workflow, always make sure you add at least one transition out of each new status, otherwise you run into a design flaw that makes your life a bit of a pain later.

I have put a ticket into the help desk to adjust my user rights - that may help

Hi Malcolm,

You may need to update your workflow status to add new ones that will fit into the extra column.

If I understood correctly, you want 2 new columns and they are meant to refer to an issue being in a specific status hence the first step should be adding the corresponding status to your workflow, publishing the change and then dragging the new status to your created columns.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi

I have added two columns to the scrum board (ready for code review and in code review) They do not have an attached status. This is the problem because the 2 new columns don't appear in the scrum board

many thanks
