"Log work" function is not working

Sabrina Oberle August 28, 2025

Helloo,

for a few days me and my colleagues are not able to use the "Log work" function on the tickets anymore.

When clicking on it, we get a "502 Bad Gateway nginx/1.18.0" message.

Can you help with this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Bests,

Sabrina

Hi @Sabrina Oberle , thanks for your post.. Unfortunately, you're not likely going to be able to resolve this issue without a Jira admin. Please can you raise this issue with someone in your company? If they can't help you, I would encourage you to get them to open a support ticket to Atlassian, who can look at your instance and try to help.

Best wishes

Hello @Sabrina Oberle ,

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community :)

This generally happens when you are using any third-party time tracking provider (including “Hide Time tracking”). Jira Cloud now hides all native time tracking UI elements. This consists of the Log Work button and Work Logs tab, across all users and projects.

To resolve this error, you’ll need to switch the provider to “Jira provided time tracking.” Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Go to your Time tracking settings ( settings -> Work Items -> Time Tracking )
  2. Change the provider to “Jira provided time tracking.”

  3. Try logging work again on the affected issue.

Why the change now? Atlassian’s goal is to give add-ons full control over time tracking, so users don’t see duplicate UI elements.

For more details, please refer to our Time Tracking Provider

Thank you!

Hello @Sabrina Oberle

Welcome to the Atlassian Community

Kindly check the time tracking provider for your Jira instance by navigating to Settings > Work Items > Time Tracking

If the Time Tracking provider is currently set to any third party application instead of Jira time tracking.

You can use Jira’s native time tracking and check if the error resolves, you’ll need to switch the provider to “Jira provided time tracking.” Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Go to your Time tracking settings
  2. Change the provider to “Jira provided time tracking.”
  3. Try logging work again.

Let us know if the error is seen with the Jira time tracker as well.

Thank you!

Helloo,

thank you for your reply!

The problem is that I don´t have access to that settings as I´m not a Jira Admin.

Is there anything else I could do besides that?

It used to work and I didn´t change anything..

Thanks.

Hello @Sabrina Oberle

Unfortunately, a normal Jira user can't perform these steps

You will have to reach out to the Jira admin so that he/she can check the time tracking provider.

Thank you!
