"Jira Cloud for Sheets": How to save custom formating so it will not be overwritten each query run?

Yana Nikolayeva July 26, 2023

I am using "Jira Cloud for Sheets" to pull list of tickets for current Sprint. To get latest info  - the query set to run daily. Each run formating is overwritten. Is there a way to keep format?

Hi @Yana Nikolayeva

I can't really offer much help for Jira Cloud for Sheets - sorry! - but just to take a step back, perhaps you could elaborate on your use case a bit more?

Reason I'm asking is that my team and I work on a Marketplace app named JXL for Jira that should allow you to do almost any kind of spreadsheet-style work directly in Jira - including conditional formatting, which would of course remain in place as your Jira data updates.

This is how this looks in action:

As you can see above, you can easily update your data in JXL, do spreadsheet-style sorting and filtering, but also use a range of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), or sum-ups. Long story short, there shouldn't be much reason anymore to get your data out of Jira at all - but of course, you can always still export to Excel in just a click.

Whether this all may be helpful to you or not somewhat depends on the exact problem you are trying to solve - but I thought I bring it up as food for thoughts.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

I came here looking for answers to this same question, as conditional formatting cannot change font type or size, spacing, cell wrap, etc. Each time the Jira data updates, this all sets back to default sheet settings. It would be nice to keep these format options intact and I do not see how they would adversely affect the changing data.
