"Atlassian Project" field in Jira doesn't work with JQL search in Jira

Craig Miller September 15, 2025

I'm looking to set up a filter within Jira which uses the "Atlassian Project" field. The field gets it's info from Projects on Atlassian Home (see info here: https://support.atlassian.com/platform-experiences/docs/what-is-a-project/).

The field doesn't seem to allow us to filter by the options on JQL even when it's populated on a Jira ticket.

If we search the Jira ticket via JQL which has an Atlassian Project value and try to view the Atlassian Project field, it shows as "None" even though it is populated.

Screenshot showing the Atlassian Project Field is populated:

Screenshot of a JQL search to view the work item that has Atlassian project automated, but shows as none in the JQL.

We would like to utilise this for reporting etc, however it currently seems unusable. I can't seem to find any information on using the Atlassian Projects field within Jira.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Craig Miller ,

"Atlassian projects" is field used to display projects set in Atlas. This is Jira Product discovery field.  May be because of this, we are not able to use them properly in Jira software projects.

Workaround
:

  1. Create a new custom field with type 'Project picker (single Project)'
  2. Give a name (example: "Jira projects")
  3. Add field to required project screens.
