Why is it so hard to change my password? why do i have to have an identity provider?

You don't need an identity provider to create an Atlassian account or change your password. An identity provider is necessary for organisations that want to integrate company managed accounts with Atlassian tools (and manage user accounts, security policies, SSO, ... centrally).
Without an identity provider, all you need is a valid email address (and first / last name), which is used to create a unique Atlassian account.
