open date after request date for created resolved chart

Hi,

My organization is recently moving to Jira and we are entering the previously opened requests into Jira. Thus, the created date is showing after request date. In this case I am looking to change the creation date to request date to build the created vs resolved chart for the dashboard.

Disclaimer: I have not done this to confirm it works but here is what I would try first.

option 1 - transition post function

the idea is to use a transition post function to copy the request date into the created date. Here are the steps:

  1. edit the associated workflow
  2. add a ‘reentrant’ transition (exits and renters same status) for each status your issues are in that need to be corrected. Call it something like “correction”
  3. Add post function to copy field and select (if available) the desired date fields.
  4. publish the workflow
  5. create a JQL for the issues by a specific status (you would have to repeat for each status separately) then use Bulk update and transition using the Correction transition.
  6. test the results to see if it achieves desired results.

option 2 - addon scripting or automation

the idea here is that if you have something like Scriptrunner or Automation for Jira then you could use that solution to automate the process of copying the field. The details would depend on what you have and some research.
