Did you mean:

nest the task tickets with the parent user story

xiaolin.zheng January 29, 2025

Hello,

In the timeline view and in the backlog view, can I see the parent ticket (User story) and its child tickets (task tickets) nested or linked together?

Best regards,

Xiaolin

Hello @xiaolin.zheng

If you are referring to the Timeline that is available in the navigation area when you are viewing an agile board, that is the "basic" Timeline.

i.e.

That Timeline view can display only two levels of the issue tyep hierarchy; Epics and their child issues. It cannot display the lowest hierarchy level; subtasks.

To see the full issue type hierarchy in a Timeline you would need to create a Plan from the Plans menu and view the Timeline associated with the Plan. This is functionality available in the Premium and Enterprise subscriptions.

Hi @xiaolin.zheng

Hierarchy in Timeline is Epic > Story / Task > Sub-Task.

You have to use Parent Link field to link Story / Task to Epic and "Create Sub-task" from Story to Sub-task.

@Florian Bonniec

In Jira Cloud the "Parent" field is used to identify all parent/child relationships based on the Issue Type Hierarchy. Parent Link is no longer used.
