I am trying to configure jira for metal fabrication processes. Cutting, bending and welding are the main processes. I divided our product into 5 main parts. Every part consists of too many sub parts and every sub parts have their sub-subparts. I've realized that creating sub-subtask is not possible in jira. So I decided to go not so much deeper. I think we can use comments to track sub-subparts. ıs there anything else you can suggest?
My another problem is about workflow. Ourflow is basicly like this:
Cutting-- Beveling-- Bending--- Fitup--- QC1(dimensional control)-- Welding--- Weld Check--- QC2
I want to detail "in progress" like this. I tried but I was unsuccesful. I created a new workflow but the order on the board is not as I created. and I cannot change the order now.
I am using project management template on Jira core. Perhaps I should change this but I am lost.
I would be really thankful if someone helps.
Thanks in advance
Hello @Celal Cesitcioglu
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Per your description, I understand you need some help to add hierarchy levels to your issues and configure your workflow to achieve the complexity of your metal fabrication process.
Please, allow me to provide you with some concepts and information that might help you:
Basically, Jira Cloud has three hierarchical levels:
Epics > Standard Issue types (Story, Task, etc) > Sub-tasks
You can use these levels and custom fields to properly set the details of your process and sub-parts. I believe it's not a good practice to use comments to do such activity because they are typically used to provide feedback and follow-ups about your issue, however, no one is better than you to decide what is the best option for your scenario. :)

About the question above, I understand your Core board is not displaying the statuses/columns in the order you want. Is that correct?
The order of the statuses on the board can be changed by simply clicking in the title of the columns and drag and drop it in the order you want. Can you check if that works for you?
If that's not the problem you are facing, can you please provide us a screenshot displaying how your board is displaying right now and explaining how you want it to display?
Additionally, a good practice to build a customized workflow would be by copying an existing one and editing it instead of creating a new workflow from scratch, since there are some post functions and properties required to make it work as expected.
Please, check the documentation below for more details about workflows:
