issues not showing up on kanban board

Mark van Harmelen April 28, 2022

We have a team managed Kanban board

And create issues, often custom issues, from epics that we create via the roadmapScreenshot_2022-04-28_at_13_59_24.png

STUDY-172 is one such example, please note 'IDEA'

For completeness, of course 'IDEA' appears in the workflow

And when we switch to theBoard view, we see the 'IDEA' column

However issues that we have been creating recently are not showing up in that column. This happens both for standard issues and for custom issues that I have created.

Further when I search via the board for the issue I have been describing, it does not appear (though the containing epic does appear when I search for '172' via the roadmap)

There are no filters applying to the STUDY board, we have one for a different board though

What are we doing wrong, we have had this working before.... any help or discussion would be great please

Have you enabled "backlog" in the project features?  New issues will drop into the backlog if you have one, rather than the first column on the board.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Nic, thank you so much, I turned backlog off and all worked as it should, and found I  can turn the backlog back on, and off again.

I'll document it below later today with screenshots I took a moment ago.

But then a follow up question please, can I create a backlog column as my left most board column, and have new features automatically appear there?

Any hints to do that would be, similarly, much appreciated :) I'm thinking

  1. turn the backlog feature off (as it is now)
  2. make a new leftmost column called backlog, and
  3. then each issue I create will automatically go in that backlog column.

I may have to change the workflow, but perhaps the workflow will  automatically change when I do 2.

Would that be the thing to do, please?

Thanks to Nic above I found the 'missing' issues in the Backlog, so

I clicked on Project settings

and then selected Features to reveal and turn off the Backlog setting

Once I had done that the missing issues turned up in the first column of the board

Bingo, desired effect.

But being a tinkerer I found out that the backlog could be turned back on if needed, and a handy option appears on the backlog page

Of course at this stage I turned backlog off again ....
