Hello,
i would like to manage epics across different teams (with different boards).
i.e. one board will handle preparation cycle of epic tasks, once they are ready for the second team i want to move those tasks to the second teams' board, but not loose the epic relations. they only thing that should be updated in the status of the task and the board linkage.
can this be done?
Hi @Netalie Linden and welcome to the Community,
All you need to do, is make sure that the workflow of your tasks covers the process across both teams. In a classic scenario, with analysis and development teams, that could look like this:
Then, create separate boards for the same project and map the Analysis statuses to the columns of one board and the Development statuses to the columns of the other board.
In the example above, Ready for Dev would be mapped to both the right-most column of your analysis board AND to the backlog of your development board.
Disclaimer: use company-managed projects for your setup, so you can leave part of the workflow unmapped from the board(s).
Hope this helps!
For sure you can have different boards for this. The question comes dow to how you want to accomplish. Let’s take a large event e.g. a wedding as an epic example. In this case we will have these task categories that we want on different boards: marriage tasks, food, communications, decorations, crowd management. In each there will be different teams responsible for the associated tasks. In this example I would use the Components field to categorize the different areas and I would use this field to define each board, e.g.
project = wedding and component = food
would illustrate all associated tasks.
your case may have timing or task dependencies which can also be managed in Jira in various ways.
