how to install jira Atlassian using tar.gz in linux OS.

i have the following assignment and i need an assistance.

• Develop automation to install either Atlassian JIRA or Atlassian Confluence using the tar.gz distribution, in any Linux distribution. This should be whatever scripting / automation you are most comfortable with.
• Install and use one of the supported production databases for the above mentioned Atlassian application.
• Have the application running for our follow-up session and be prepared to interact with the application.
• Document the steps you took to complete the above tasks including issues you ran into (and how you overcame them).
• Create a list of at least three next steps you'd like to take to improve the process and identify a tool that could be used for at least one of the next steps.

Submitting the Solution

• Prior to the our walk through, please submit the following via a public Git repository hosted on https://bitbucket.org.
  • Screen shots of the following:
    • Running application with some basic customizations unique to you (create some tickets/wiki pages, change some colors, etc)
    • Screenshots of the System Information screen showing your database configuration.
  • Outline of steps taken to complete the task
  • Any automation scripts you may have used or written
  • Next Steps

Could you elaborate what this is for? This almost sounds like a 

• school assignment
• job interview task
• ...

It is asking for you to build an automation to install the system with a scripting language you are familiar with. 

I would suggest for you to take a stab at what ever linux/bash/python/.. scripting language you are familiar with and start by setting up the steps for an installation.

Going by the requirements you'll need to at least:

• install or at the minimum set up a database on one of the supported plaforms (not H2 as it needs to be a production DB so PostgreSQL?)
• launch the installer for Jira or confluence and run through the installation script (which you might need to build yourself)

This seems like a broad assignment so I would first do some investigation as to what language you know/like to work with and then investigate the steps needed to install and set it up.

If you get stuck on a step I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

This is a job interview task assigned after finishing a second interview with the company. I'm familiar with bash but not too good in scripting. -still learning. if there is a way to help me. please do. will be much appreciated. I am suppose to submit my solution via a public Git repository after its done. Thank you for your concern.
