Did you mean:

how long it takes to permanent delete a project

Yonatan Ben-David December 20, 2020

Hi,

i did test migration of project from server to cloud and now i want to do the full migration.

the problem is that the project used for testing is still in the cloud.

i tried delete the project then it moved to trash.

i tried permanent deleting it and it says it will take time.

the question is how much time will it take ? since no progress bar or indication is available.

Thanks,

Yonatan

Hi @Yonatan Ben-David,

A couple of things here:

When you delete a project from cloud, it gets moved into the project trash. You can find it by navigating to Settings > Projects and then from the left hand side menu select Trash. Or directly through https://<your cloud site>.atlassian.net/jira/settings/projects/trash. There you can see how long it will take for the project to be deleted permanently and you can take matters into your own hands and delete them immediately yourself.

If you migrated the same project before with the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA) to the same cloud site, there's a good chance that behind the scenes JCMA still has a record of that and won't allow you to perform the same migration twice. You'll know if you have permanently removed the project from the cloud site and JCMA won't let you migrate again. Atlassian Support can help you clearing those migration records from your server database.

For that last part, create a migration support ticket if you haven't done so already and explain your case. You will get the necessary instructions there on how to proceed.

Hi @Yonatan Ben-David,

You will be able to do the JCMA cleanup yourself, but that requires deleting history records from the Jira database.

It is quite important to get the correct delete queries to do this. And that's what migration support should be able to help you with.

Thanks, I will contact the support.
