hi I need to trigger a database function when the status of an issue changes

I need to trigger a external database function when the status of an JIRA issue changes from say 'In Progress' to 'Completed' . how can i achieve this?

You can't do it out of the box. You'll need a plugin. I don't use it, but scriptrunner may be able to do it. If not, check the marketplace. Being in the cloud your options for plugins is limited. Good Luck
