As a Jira administrator, it is crucial to follow good and practical practices to manage Jira setup efficiently. These practices can help guide administrators on what they should and should not do. One such practice is to use naming conventions for custom fields. If these practices are not followed, managing the Jira setup can become increasingly difficult over time, and it may require a thorough cleanup and reorganization.

Things will start to get messy when there are few administrators and each is doing their own way.

Are there any practical practices or guides for managing Jira Software?

Hello @JoelSiow

Here are some best practices for Jira administrators:
  • User permissions: Grant only the necessary permissions to each user, group, or project role.
  • Workflows: Iterate on your workflow, involve stakeholders, and keep it simple.
  • Naming conventions: Establish clear and practical naming conventions for items.
  • Project templates: Use project templates with predefined workflows, custom fields, and schemes.
  • Issues: Archive Jira issues to keep your instance clean.
