Did you mean:

crtl + k on all pages?

Hi community!

ctrl  +k is the "new" shortcut to open the command palette.

Google Chrome also has a ctrl + k shortcut to start a search action in the address bar.
Edge does the same. It might be a chromium-wide shortcut?
Firefox has the same shortcut.

I'm often annoyed by this since the shortcut in Jira does not seem to work on all pages. Sometimes it triggers to browser's search function.
I also happens when you use the command before the page finishes to load.

I can not be the only one experiencing this.

My question:

  • Was this shortcut an unfortunate choice by Atlassian?
  • Why is it not working everywhere?

Hi @Charlie Misonne welcome to the Atlassian community.

That's an excellent observation and a very common frustration! You're definitely not alone in experiencing this conflict with Ctrl + K given the widespread adoption of Ctrl + K for search/command in browsers.

To my earlier conversations on the similar line with few Atlassian's, I was informed it's a common shortcut for "command" or "keyboard access" in many applications, especially developer tools and IDEs. It provided a quick, universal way to navigate and execute actions within their ecosystem, which is powerful when it works as intended.

The challenge arises because browsers are the underlying platform. When there's a conflict, the browser often "wins" or gets priority, especially during page load or if the application's JavaScript hasn't fully taken over the keyboard event.

Yours is a valid feedback, and perhaps something Atlassian could consider offering a configurable alternative for, given its prevalence across browsers.

Thanks for sharing your feedback @G subramanyam

I still prefer the 'GG' shortcut form Jira DC :-)

I'm very lucky that I don't use the shortcut in my day to day in browser, but the same as you I've occasionally opened the browser bar instead of the command palette as well.

I also get a bit mixed up because you can also open it via pressing "." the full stop button, which is what my day to day data centre uses. so I keep having to switch between them. Which I think is what it used to be before they changed to ctrl+k

I use it all the time and when quickly navigating between pages it's quite annoying to end up in the search bar every time :-)
