I deleted a separate Atlassian account associated with alex@someaccount.com and it is currently in the 14-day recovery period. I am now trying to change the email address of my primary Atlassian account from trueAccount@bla-bla.com to alex@someaccount.com. The email change request is accepted and shows "Update pending verification", but the verification email never arrives at alex@someaccount.com. Could you please help whether the address is on a suppression list or still blocked by the deleted account?

Hi @o_skirnevskyi
An Atlassian email can only belong to one account at a time, and during the 14 day grace period the deleted account still owns alex@someaccount.com. That's why your primary account is stuck on "pending verification": the address isn't actually free yet, so the change can't complete, and the grace period itself can't be shortened.

You don't have to wait it out though. You can release the address yourself:

  • Sign back in to the deleted account. Logging in within the 14 days automatically cancels its deletion.
  • In that account's profile, change its email to a placeholder such as placeholder@example.com, which frees alex@someaccount.com.
  • Back on your primary account at id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/email, run the change to alex@someaccount.com again and verify. You can re delete the old (now placeholder) account afterwards if you don't need it.

One thing that would still block you: if the address is already free and the verification email still never lands, that's the suppression list rather than the deleted account, and clearing it is the part only Atlassian Support can do, which is where Shalini's link applies. Full write up of the grace period cause and this workaround: Cannot change Atlassian account email due to "already associated" error after deletion
