This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Estimating an issue

I do not see the "Estimate" field, neither in the issues, nor in the Field Configuration screen.

I also tried to add "Costs Dev" field in screens: even if it is listed in the admin part as part of the creen, it does not appear in the issues.

What can I do to be able to enter estimates in JIRA?

Ah, yes, that's a sneaky one.  Look for "time tracking" as a field, rather than "estimate".  It's a field that bundles up several entry/display fields - original estimate, remaining estimate and work log total displays are all handled by it.

"Costs Dev" is a custom field you have added - you need to make sure it:

  • is not hidden in the field configuration
  • has the field context for the project(s) and issue type(s) you want it to appear on (check that from the list of custom fields)
  • that it has been added to the view and probably create/edit screens in the issue type screen scheme
  • That you've edited the issue and put data in it - JIRA will hide custom fields with no data on the issue view (but it'll appear on create and edit, if you meet the three above)

Also, try clicking "where's my field" on an edit screen.

Thank you Nic.

Time tracking field is already is added, but I only see the Tempo part, where you can log work, or plan work by day and by person... I still can not just enter estimates for an issue...

Costs Dev had all of those, still does not appear. But I just tried to use this one because I was starting to despair for the estimate field. If I can solve this one, it will be ok...

So, any idea what the problem might be?

Is it due to the tempo add on? Does it remove the possibility to manage estimates without inputing it by day and by person?

Thanks again!

Tempo shouldn't affect it.

Have a close look at the project's "issue type screen scheme" and drill down to the "create" screen for the issue type you are going to test with.  Make sure "time tracking" is on it somewhere.  It sounds like you've already checked the "field configuration".  That's it.  If Time tracking is there, you'll see "original estimate" on the create screen.

It's well worth trying the "where's my field" option, it really does work.
