Writing a query to colour code Jira issues by Team

Debbie Hall October 22, 2025

I would like to be able to customise my Jira tickets on a company sprint board, so that a different colour is displayed for each team.

I have 3 different teams that work together delivering items of work. Currently to encourage the team to work together I display Epics and have a label displayed which identifies the relevant team, but it would be great to display a colour too for each team.

The drop down options I have are prioritisation, assignee and query.

I'm not sure how to write a query to have colours assigned to teams.

Can anyone help?

Hello @Debbie Hall

Are you working with a board for a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project? Get that information by clicking on the ... button next to the project name in the sidebar on the left.

If you are working with a board for a Company Managed project then you can set colors for cards based on Queries as per this documentation:

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/customize-cards/#Configure-card-colors

This is available only for Company Managed projects.

You would create queries using the Label that you have used for each team. Example:

I used the field named Labels. What I put in the parentheses is the value used for a team. You add a color/query for each team.

Let me know if you have additional questions.
