Workflow transition - how to exclude Epics from transition rule

Maria Holden

Hi,

I've got a transition, a work item can't transition to Done unless it has a parent. This also includes Epics, which I don't want. Is there a way to exclude Epics?

It's a company-managed project

Thanks,
Maria

Hello @Maria Holden

Do you have any third party apps that extend the capabilities available in Workflows, adding more options for Conditions, Validators, and Post Functions than are natively available?

If not then you have two options.

  1. Create a copy of the workflow. Remove the elements that prevent it from progressing if the target issue doesn't have a parent. Update the Workflow Scheme for the project to associate that new workflow with the Epic issue type.
  2. Set up multiple transitions to Done. In one of the transitions remove the elements that require a parent. To those transitions add a Condition that enables the transition only for work items of type Epic. In the transitions that do require a parent, add Conditions to enable the transition only for all the work item types that are not "Epic".
