I created a new scrum board by cloning one already created with customized settings.
I want to remove a certain number of tasks/issues from this new board so it only includes those for one team (Board B) and leaving the rest in the old board for that team (Board A).
I have the 'delete' option in the new board (but want to make sure that the tasks/issues in the old board aren't deleted/affected.
Will this be the case?
Thank you!!!
Boards do not contain issues, they are a view of a set of issues. Projects are the issue containers.
If you do something to an issue on a board, you are affecting the issue. If you edit it, transition it, delete it, the change happens to the issue. Other boards will show that change because they are only a view.
Please correct me if I'm wrong- so in this scenario, I cannot delete a task in a cloned board because it will also delete it in any other boards where it is viewed?
If this is the case, should I just delete the cloned board and create a new one and move tasks one by one over to the new board?
The overall goal is to separate tasks of two teams currently on the same board- I'm looking for the easiest way to have the same configurations/settings as the original board and move the tasks

Correct - because a board is looking at an object, if you change or delete that object, it's changed/deleted in all the other views too.
You can't "move an issue from one board to another" - issues are objects that the boards view.
You need to create separate tasks for each team and then create views (boards) for them that choose to view them, selecting by different criteria. Your boards will NOT have the same configuration - you can make them work almost the same, but the boards will need to view different sets of issues, so they will need different board filters.

Thank you so much for this clarification!! I'm off to create and configure and new board :)

Quick follow up- if I delete my cloned board, could it affect the original board since tasks/issues are in both?
Also, I assume there is no way to retrieve a deleted clone board?
I have a user saying some but not all tickets have just vanished from the original board and their URLs say they've been deleted or don't have permissions post clone board deletion.

Also- can I delete a copied board without affecting the original?

Deleting a board will not affect the issues - remember the issues are not "in" boards, they're just "looked at" by boards.
There's no way (without going to a backup) of getting a board back.
Are you sure you only deleted a board, and not a project?

Yes, the project is still intact, and the original board untouched from what I can see except for (4) missing items out of 200, I just want to rule out that deleting the clone board didn't cause it.
So deleting a copy of a board also shouldn't affect any issues task in the original also, correct?

Correct, removing the board won't have removed the issues or amended the other board.
Deleting a copy won't affect the issues (other than removing the "issue is on board x" links)

ok, thank you- i thought that was the case but want to rule it out as the cause. is there any possible way to retrieve the missing issues? I'll have to further troubleshoot what caused them to disappear.

It depends on why they "disappeared". Do you mean they are no longer on the board, or that the user cannot see them at all, or that they have been totally deleted?
To establish this, first have a look at one of the issues - forget the boards, just go straight to the issue (e.g. if you've "lost" ABC-123, go to https://yourjira/browse/ABC-123 to get the main core issue view) - what does that say?

The creator and myself receive error message of "issue is no longer available/cannot be viewed"
I never deleted any issues/sprints but 4 issues (1 sprint) is now empty but still exists as 'Sprint June 2019'
You previously mentioned it could possibly be retrieved from a backup I think?
I'm not versed enough to troubleshoot this but you've been extremely helpful and I just finished creating my new customized board and project to keep my team's items clean and streamlined :)

It's either secured from you, or it's been deleted.
You can get issues back from backups, but it's a bit of a nightmare (which is why you'll find one of the most popular phrases in the community is "do not allow delete issue"). You'll need to restore the backup to a temporary development system, read the issues out and think about how to replace them in the original system.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- I want to delete a board and also want to confirm the same... I am getting this message when I go to delete board that is a duplicate of another.
This board contains issues from these active sprints:
We recommend completing or deleting active sprints before deleting Consolidated Backlog View.
This statement causes me to think it would delete the sprints as well... I am hoping that isn't true...

Yes, it would render the sprints unusable, that's why it suggests ending them before deleting the board. While it won't delete the sprints themselves, it will mean they can't be finished, so you'll end up with hanging sprints.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- Thanks for the reply. That is unfortunate. I had only created the view to help us clean up the backlog but a lot of the features to create the board were turned off for me and it automatically included the current sprints in the view... I guess I am stuck with a view that I didn't mean to create.
I have a workaround of just moving it to my personal location, but would love a way to delete a duplicate board without affecting the original.

I am sorry, I was not clear - this will only damage the sprints that were created in the board you're looking to delete. Deletion of other boards that are not the originators of the sprints will not affect them. Also, if you do get it wrong, you can still create a board that will show the sprints again, and move issues through to the end and then delete the board again once the sprints have been ended.
In more simple terms, I was not clear that "deleting a duplicate board will not affect the original"

I've noticed the similar issue somehow, we are switching from Trello to Jira now:
1. I've migrated a board from our Trello space to the Jira project (temporary Project A).
2. Then I've moved tasks and issues from the A Project to different Projects B, C, D.
3. And the new tasks are disappearing from new projects after deleting from the original A.
Is this possible?
