I often try to embed very long URLs into JIRA tickets and comments - for example, URLs for specific Mixpanel query pages can be over 1000 characters. However, when I try to use styled URLs in JIRA (this one works), I get error messages on submit (see below). This wasn't an issue in the old version of JIRA before the fancy UX "improvements" a few months ago, and there's nothing wrong with long URLs in the normal web.
So why is there a limit on URL length, and what is it?
Here is the error message:
We couldn't save your comment
It might be empty, too long, or have invalid formatting. If you copy-pasted, try removing the formatting and adding it directly in the editor.
Hi Robin,
I haven't found anything related to maximum URL length on comments, but we have a bug related to this error that was reported last month, where when we add a "Code block" and if it has an exclamation point, it shows the error:
Just for us to better understand what is happening, if possible, can you please send us the URL (if it's not private) and the steps you are following to add the comment (if you are using the code block, for example)?
Regards,
Angélica
Hi Angelica,
Also just experienced this when saving this URL in a ticket description (and comment). Happy to share the URL as it's private.

I will add for @Robin Oliva-Kraft that the workaround for now is to use the hyperlink function, rather than pasting the full URL.
