I would like to make a custom multi-line text field appear under the description field on the left-hand side of the (new) issue view.
Based on the following article, this should be possible simply by adding the desired custom field to the 'Description Area' of the issue layout, however, I only see 'Primary' and 'Secondary' categories. I do not see a 'Description Area' as per the image in the article:
Any pointers on what I'm missing to make this work (using Cloud) would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I couldn't see the option as the Description Area hadn't been rolled out to our cloud instance yet. Support kindly expedited deployment for us, so now I have it.
Awesome! While I like a lot of things about Cloud including the active rollout of new features it can be frustrating at times to deal with the changes and answering questions in the Community is often footnoted with “this is how it is in my instance yours may be different”. I wish there was a version number we could reference.

@Tim Dunn , if you add a multi-line text field it should end up in the Description area by default. Have you tried and is this not happening?

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the suggestion, however, I have indeed tried that to no avail, unfortunately. Just to confirm:
Thanks again.

I suggest you contact Atlassian Support. It should work fine.
