Why is everyone appearing as an "Anonymous User"?

Since this morning, all of the registered users on our JIRA platform are appearing as "Anonymous User" in the Activity Stream.

It only seems to happen when assigning JIRA tasks from one user to another user - the user assigning the task displays their full name, but the assignee is shown as "Anonymous User"

Is there any way to fix this or is this another recent GDPR change?

I am not seeing this and, as stated, sure sounds like a bug. I would recommend reaching out to Atlassian Support unless you are on a free version.

This is the response i got from Atlassian support:

The "Anonymous User" appearing in the gadget is due to a failed retrievable of the user data. This has been identified as a bug and was reported a couple of days ago:
