Why does my work item screen not match the one I configured?

I have configured the fields I want to see in the screens and attached the screen to the screen scheme and attached that to the different work types. But my work item screens never have the fields that I chose. Is there some other setting somewhere that I need to look at? I'm in a company managed project.

Hi Deseymour,

Screens are often associated with work types, though not always. It might be that. Or once the screen is created and implemented, there is a work item layout functionality that can change what the screen looks like when implemented. That is the configure button in the bottom right of the screen.

Thanks! I never noticed that button for Configure before.

One other thing...do you have to set this for every space you have? It seems like I have to do this, but that seems crazy...so maybe I'm wrong...

So, there are a couple of things going on here. Screens have fields added to them and the fields can be dragged up or down to set the order. You can have different screens for different work types. So any space and work type combination where the screen scheme is shared in those spaces will use the same exact screen.

However, for each space and work type combination, you can go to the work type layout screen, which I mentioned above, and change the order and what fields appear on the screen for that space and issue type. That change overrides the settings of the screen itself for that space and work type. And yes, if you want to change the fields for other work types on that same space that use different screens (or for different spaces) you will need to modify the layout for those, too. Though you can copy the layout (see next to the save button) and copy the layout to other space/work type combinations and not have have to do them one by one.

Hi @deseymour ,

In addition to what John said .... you can also use the "Find your field" function on the issue detail screen to find out why your field is not displayed.
