As far as I was aware every issue is related to a project, example being my project of Joe Bloggs would have an issue with ID of JB-1. A board within this project is a view of issues within that project but shouldn't have a direct impact on the issues themselves. Please at this point, correct me if i am wrong.
In my project Joe Bloggs, i had multiple boards; Joe Bloggs Kanban, Joe Bloggs Sprint, Joe Bloggs Initiative 1, Joe Bloggs Initiative 2. Now, Joe Bloggs Initiative 1 and Joe Bloggs Initiative 2 have some issues within their view, but i no longer need the boards. So i decided to delete the boards, under the assumption the issues would still be related to that project. However, this is not the case? Having deleted the boards and the project still existing, the issues have also been deleted. This doesn't make sense to me and shouldn't be the case. Can someone please tell me what's going on here and if this is expected behaviour (in my eyes it shouldn't be!).
Hi Alex,
Issues are not supposed to be deleted when deleting a board. Issues belong to the project not to the board. Are you saying that you can't find the issues when using the search option? How did you delete the board?
He Carlos,
Thanks for the quick response. I went to the board itself, clicked 'Configure Board', then click 'Board' in the top right and chose 'Delete' from there.
I can't find the issue at all. If i go directly to the link of the issue, it isn't there. If i try and search for it it isn't there. I got messaged by a colleague after i deleted the board asking if i had deleted the issue, so they must have got notified about a deleted issue.

this does not make sense. Issues belong to projects not boards. Can you verify the Project still exists? and if so go to the search for issues view and create a filter for the project and see if you can find the issue. Better yet if you recall one of the issue IDs simply search for it, e.g. issuekey = abc-1234 or click the magnifying glass and enter abc-1234.

It turns out it didn't delete the issue. The issue had been deleted previously. It was just very weird timing that as I deleted a board I get a question immediately asking if i had deleted an issue. Crisis over. Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated!

Thanks for confirming, Alex. I'm glad the mystery got resolved:-)

Sorry to revive this, but I was wondering if I could get confirmation on the following.
If I delete a "BOARD", all of its constituent issues/tickets will automatically continue to exist in the main backlog? At the moment they are not there.

The issues will continue to exist in the associated project(s). What shows in the backlog depends on the backlog. If it represents issues in “To Do” status then those issues should be there but not issues in say In Progress, etc.

@Jack Brickey - Thanks Jack! How do I, therefore, ensure that our backlog is configured to display specific statuses?

I’m trying to understand the scenario where you have a backlog without a board. Can you share a full screenshot of what you are experiencing. There are different types of boards and projects that can change the answer.

Two boards were set up by my predecessor, but we only need the one and wish to purge the "Demand" board.
Not sure how I can just remove the the second board and just keep the tickets in the main board's backlog.....

It is hard for me to assess w/o actually seeing what you are experiencing, hence my request for screenshot. My current advise would be to delete all boards and start over w/ new board and set up the backlog to be for your To Do status. I'm assuming you are on cloud and that you are using a classic project and not speaking of any 'default' boards (can't be deleted) that come with business projects.

Hi @jack_a - Grateful for your continued help.
Screenshots attached, just in case you have any last-minute advice before I go ahead a delete. Last thing I want to inadvertently delete a bunch of existing tickets.
