Why can't I add the fix version field to my Jira plan?

I have created a Jira plan and want to add the field fix version to it.  We use fix versions to assign stories to releases.  However, when I try to add fix version to my Jira plan, it does not show up as an option to be included.

If the field 'fix version' is enabled and we can use it in our stories, why would it not be an option to be included in a Jira plan?

When you are trying to add a column to your Jira Plan for some reason Fix Versions is called "Releases". If you add the "Releases" column it will show your Fix Versions.

I believe that there are certain system fields that can be added to a plan, but, besides those, the only fields you can add are custom fields.

However, if you are using the Fix Version field and there are issues using that Fix Version in your plan, you can select the 'Filters' drop-down and select the appropriate Fix Version (or Fix Versions) and it will pull in just those work items into the Plan.

Note that, if you are bringing in Epics into the Plan but those don't have Fix Versions, you'll need to change the Hierarchy to only show the Stories.
