Why can't I add the 'epic link' field to my issues?

Hi there,

I have created a blank Jira Work management Project with a Kanban board and can't seem to add the epic link field. I have created an epic, then created a task, clicked configure in the bottom right and it doesn't appear.

I have then clicked 'Go to custom fields', I do see it in there but I can't seem to edit it in any way. Under contexts it says 'This field will be available on issues of any type in all projects' and yet when I look at it's projects it says no projects are configured to use this field.

I have tried looking at screens and screen schemes and have added every screen available to the field but still it's not showing up.

Can anyone help me?

Hello @Harry Webb

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you confirm for us that you are indeed using a Team Managed project? Check the bottom of the panel on the left when you are viewing the project. The text should include "team-managed" or "company-managed".

If you are indeed using a Team Managed project then be advised that the "Epic Link" field is not applicable to such projects. That field is used only in Company Managed projects.

Additionally, Team Managed projects do not use the Schemes (Field Configuration, Screens, etc.) that Jira Administrators manage. Those are for Company Managed projects only.

Please tell us what problem you are trying to solve by adding the Epic Link field to your screens in your Team Managed project so we can advise you on solving the actual problem.
