Why can I not edit a filter JQL statement?

Nick Van Maele July 2, 2024

Hi,

I am new to JIRA and creating my first board, based on a filter.

I have defined a filter in basic view, and then switched to the JQL view. The filter is:

project IN (SYSDEV, FIN)

AND type IN (Deliverable, Epic, Story, Sub-task)

ORDER BY Rank ASC

I now want to add an additional line to that JQL statement.

However, the issue is that I cannot modify it in any way:

  • Pressing Enter does not create a new line
  • Typing a letter key does not actually add that letter to the statement

It appears that the JQL statement is read-only.

How can I modify the JQL statement?

  • Do I need to edit it in a different window?
  • Is there some 'filter edit' privilege that an admin should give me?
  • Or ...?

Thanks for any insights on this one.

Hello @Nick Van Maele

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you provide a screen image showing us what you see? Generally switching from Basic view to JQL view doesn't break the statement into multiple lines, but you should be able to add a carriage return/new line using Shift+Enter.

Also in the image can you point out where you are trying to insert your text?

Hi @Trudy Claspill

Thank you for your warm welcome and fast response.

The view I see is shown below. I would like to add a new line below line 2.

Thanks for your help,

Nick

OK...

SHIFT+ENTER appears to be the key for adding a new line.

That was the solution to my question.

Thanks!
