I believe there is a bug, that does not allow me to dismiss tickets, even though I have permissions to close tickets.
When I try to drag and drop a ticket into the "dismiss" section, the screen freezes and the status of the ticket is not updated.
When I open the detailed view of a ticket that is "in progress" and set the status to "dismiss" manually, the status bar is updated to "done". After reloading the page, the status is back to "in progress".
I am able to close tickets to "done" via drag & drop and also via manual status change though the select button. I used to be able to dismiss tickets a while ago with no problem. Our jira admin confirmed that my account permissions did not change.

Hi Jessica, welcome to the Community. It could be a number of things. I am wondering if there is some Automation at play here? The fact that in the detail view if you choose Dismiss transition and see the Done status until reloaded leads me to believe the transition occurs but something is undoing it. Can you first check if there is an automation that might be moving the issue back to In progress?
