Why are deleted users still shown as filtered options when viewing sprints?

Upon viewing our sprint boards and filtering per user with the quick filters, we are still seeing deleted users appearing as a filter option.  How do I remove these if the users have already been deleted?

Are the users still associated to issues that are displaying in the boards?
