I've been using the free version of jira for a personal project, but I've received emails asking for payment for a subscription. Why is this? I haven't consented to a paid product. My username is Rollo.junkmail@gmail.com

Did you perhaps sign up for a trial of the paid version of the product?
You can go to https://admin.atlassian.com and go to the Billing section to manage your subscriptions. I recommend that you go there and check if your product shows it is on something besides the Free plan. You can also change your plan from there and downgrade to the free plan
