Where do I find Rapid Board for the hosted environment?

Paul Bedford August 23, 2018

We are looking to start using Jira and I want to take a look at Rapid Board but I cannot find it in the Apps to install. How do I install Rapid Board on my hosted trial?

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

Rapid boards are now included as a part of the JIRA Software functionality. You will need to install a trial of JIRA software to get these features.

To install, click on "Switch Apps". This looks like a bunch of little boxes on the lower left-hand side. Select "Site Administration" and then "Discover New Applications". You should see it there.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Kian - does it have a new name? When I follow your instructions I don't see a Rapid Board. I see Portfolio and Jira Core etc. etc.

You need to install JIRA Software. If you already have JIRA Software installed, maybe you should make a project. This will set up a board for you.

I am using the hosted (cloud) Jira. I have some test projects set up. Is the default board in Jira now Rapid Board? From my readings I understood they were different.

I want to be able to configure a board to rollup tasks from multiple projects in a timeline. Is this the best way to achieve this or is there a better way?

Thanks for all your help. Apologies for the NEWB questions.

Paul,

It sounds to me like you are looking for JIRA Portfolio. Are you trying to get a high-level overview of the work being done and when you can expect it to be completed?

JIRA Portfolio allows you to pull in multiple projects to get a cross-organization view at the existing efforts and their proposed timeframes based on estimates created within the tickets and the resource capacity that you have on hand.

Does this sound like what you are trying to do?

Yes. We have multiple projects - some bigger, some smaller - that are assigned across our team of developers - so as well as wanting a better more orderly way to manage work for the teams, management want to be able to have a view across all the work - they ideally are asking for a calendar / gannt view of open tasks and when they will complete across all the projects.

JIRA Portfolio shows a higher level than tasks in the timeline view. It does allow you to see stories in a chart underneath, but it isn't designed for "task management". There are several add-ons that you can evaluate including some specifically for Gannt if you want a more direct "task management" feature set.
