My login details are all correct and it will allow me to log in for a second and then it takes me straight back to the log in page
When you enter your correct Jira login details and are immediately redirected back to the login page, this is usually caused by a browser or session-related problem. Here are the most common reasons and solutions:
Browser Cache or Cookies Problem: If your browser has cached multiple Jira session cookies (especially JSESSIONID
), or if old data is stored, the login session may not work correctly.
Solution: Clear your browser’s cookies and cache, then restart your browser and try again. Alternatively, use your browser's incognito/private mode for a quick test.
Browser Extensions or Privacy Settings: Some extensions/plugins (e.g., ad blockers or privacy tools) can block or delete cookies required for Jira to keep you logged in.
Solution: Disable possibly interfering extensions and test again.
Same Context Path/Hostname for Multiple Atlassian Apps: If you use other Atlassian apps (like Confluence) with Jira on the same IP/domain, session cookies can “step on each other,” causing login loops.
Solution: Make sure Jira and other tools run on separate context paths or try logging in to Jira only.
Software Firewall or Blocked Cookies: A firewall or network security tool might be blocking Jira’s cookies or traffic.
Solution: Temporarily disable any local software firewall/security software and try again.
Browser Compatibility Issue: Make sure you are using a supported browser and that it is set to accept cookies from the Jira site.
Clear browser cookies and cache for your Jira site.
Try logging in via incognito/private window.
Disable browser extensions or try another web browser.
Make sure the computer’s date/time are correct (can affect sessions).
If you still can’t log in, contact your Jira site administrator—they can check for backend issues or session misconfiguration.
