When a commit is created, status transition is not happening

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I have connected Github with Jira. As per few reference links, when a commit/ branch is created with the issue key, the status of the issue should change from to do to in progress or something like that. But it is not happening. Only the commits and branches are being recorded but the transition is not changing
