If we need to take a full backup of all tickets including attachments from inception, what would be the options available?

Hello @Santhosh Gosula ,

Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community :)

For taking a backup, navigate to Settings → System → Import and Export → Backup manager and select Create backup for cloud, making sure to tick "Include additional files" to capture attachments, avatars, and logos.

All Issues, field content (system + custom), board/sprint data, users, groups, comments, attachments, project configuration (workflows, schemes, screens, etc.), and Advanced Roadmaps will be backed up.

Please note: Automation rules (must be exported separately), third-party app data, JSM features powered by Opsgenie, Assets for JSM, and product access settings will not be included in the backup.

Thank you

Thanks for the details. @Shalini Pradhan ,

What are the options available for the jira server instances to take a full backup of all tickets including attachments?

@Santhosh Gosula

For Jira Server, there is a dedicated page in the official documentation about backing up every sort of data. This should be the first thing you read.

Hi @Santhosh Gosula ,

This guide may be helpful in your case: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/export-issues/

The backup process depends on your Jira (Cloud or DC).

In Jira Cloud, backups may include data from all projects, including attachments.

In Jira Data Center, attachments will not be backed up. This needs to be done manually.

Also, the backup for server option has been discontinued. As I know, you can use the CSV file import wizard instead.

If you also need readable exports of tickets and their full history from Jira Cloud or Jira Data Center, you can use Issue History for Jira (Work Item History) app from SaaSJet team. Using it, you can export full ticket data and change history to Excel or CSV (however, right now, exporting attachments is not possible).

Hope it will be useful for you.

Is this for Jira Data Center or for Jira Cloud?

@Santhosh Gosula ,

Attachments are not automatically backed as part of the backup file. Those would have to be manually backed from the file system.
