What should I do when someone finishes her tasks while waiting for others to complete the sprint?

Tay April 18, 2018

I have a sprint with 2 members. A handles front end and B handles back end. The sprint is scheduled for 3 weeks. After 2 weeks, A finishes all the tasks assigned, while B is still in progress.

What should I do with A now? I couldnt close the sprint yet.

* Should I start a new sprint with A alone? I couldn't start a new sprint as the create sprint button is disabled. It says still have other active sprint. I checked and looks like I can turn on parallel sprints. But if I do so, it says that the velocity chart will not be accurate?

* And I will also have multiple sprints with teams with different sizes right? Will all the agile report affected?

* Or should I create a new board for A instead? In this case, I will have a front end board and a backend board with one single developer each. Does this make senses? An agile team should be a cross functional team? Using this, would those agile reports still work?

* If the team expands later, I'll add into front and backend board / team? Or continue to have a board for each dev?

* What is the best practice for this?

Thanks.

Hi @Tay,

This is more an Agile question rather than JIRA, your possible options for an available resource are:

  • Add work from the backlog to the active sprint that can fill resource A's capacity. Even if the workload is greater than the sprint capacity, the remaining work can be split to a future sprint.

Hope this helps
