Is there a good way to give a client access to the project board?
Rather than giving full access to the board, we'd like to ability to:
- Give the client a view-only access but give them the ability to request updates on issues/stories from within Jira.
Is this possible?
At the moment, we're setting up a new, simplified board for the client to give them access to, rather than sharing the live, dev board with them.
Hello Laura,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
In Jira Software, in order to allow people to view the board, it's necessary to give a license and with that, they will have full access to the board.
Currently, there is no permission to only view a board on Classic or Next-gen projects. It's possible to allow an unlicensed or licensed user of other products (Service Management or Core) to view the tickets of a project, but they won't be able to access the board, since this is a Jira Software feature.
Hope this helps!
If you have any other questions regarding this matter, please let us know.
Regards,
Angélica
Hi Angelica, can you please clarify if when sharing a board with client, they can only see the board that is relevant to them, and no other boards of my organisation?
I'm looking into doing something similar to Laura where I create a shared space for my clients to monitor project progress, but I need to ensure that their permissions will be strictly to view/comment on their board only.
Thank you
Vasiliki

Hey @Laura Millett
One of the apps made by my company, External Share for Jira, is now able to share Jira issues securely, or even whole Scrum or Kanban Boards with anyone :)
I hope it may better resolve your use case!

Hello @Vasiliki Mitsiou,
Welcome to Community!
When using Classic projects, allowing people to see specific boards will depend on the project permissions. By default, any logged in user with a Jira Software license can view boards, so it will be necessary to change the permission scheme to allow people from specific roles or groups to access the project.
The permission that allows viewing a Software project is “Browse projects”. If they don’t have this permission, they won’t be able to view the project and access the board.
On Next-gen projects, there is no permission scheme, so it will depend on the Project access.
As I mentioned in my previous answer, there are no permissions specifically for Boards. Once you allow them to view the project, they will be able to see not only the boards but also the roadmap, reports, backlog.
Kind regards,
Angélica
