What is the way to add a new category?

What is the way to add a new category for a status in my workflow definition for later using in the board view?

(f.i. new column "validation" additionally to "new", "in progress" and "done")

Hi,

'To Do', 'In Progress' and 'Done' are status categories. The specific statuses are mapped to one of them.

There was a suggestion to add more categories to statuses which has been closed. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-36241 Atlassian won't implement new status categories.

There might be some Apps in Market Place which could probably come close to the requirement.
