What is the exact jira system criteria for completing a sprint story

It seems like all stories have to be in the "completed" state in order to credit the story to the sprint. Otherwise jira asks you if you want to move the stories to the next sprint even if all the subtasks are completed.

what if you have a custom state called "Finally Finished". Shouldn't you be able to close the sprint and have it credited? Does the state have to explicitly be "completed"?

What if you don't have a "completed" state in your workflow?

Is the system specifically looking for stories in the "completed" state?

If so why is that?

Is there a work around to have a custom state be recognized as the final state?

Please let me know

The issue, and all its sub-tasks if there are any, need to be in the last column on your board.

The name of the status and even its id in the database (and status category, and resolution) are irrelevant, in themselves, you could call the status "Shirley" rather than "finally finished" or "completed" for all Jira cares.

The scrum boards all consider "the last column = done"
