What happens to issues which belong to a status removed from workflow?

I need to change a workflow and remove a couple of statuses. However i still have tickets in that status? what would happen to those tickets? is it possible to bulk update the statuses of those tickets to something which is relevant to us?

Hello,

You will need to associate a new workflow to the project workflow scheme and on publishing this workflow Jira will ask you to associate all issues with absent statuses to a new one.

Hello @Rishabh M

While migrating the workflow scheme to the new workflow scheme having the workflow with new statuses JIra will prompt you to map your current issue status to new ones and only then you can migrate to new workflow schemes. In jira you can't delete statuses from an active workflow as well.
