What happens these days when you reach Jira Cloud limits?

I'm putting together a talk about "The Limits of Jira Cloud" and am not finding clear documentation about what happens when you reach limits with it.

1. I expect the pop-up warnings and alerts to be the main way of telling admins that there is a problem, but do site admins also get emails?

2. If you do exceed the user count, does Jira prevent you creating new issues? This is what I'd expect

Extra thanks for pointers to any docs, but subjective experience is very welcome!

Hey @Matt Doar _Adaptavist_ ,

Welcome to Atlassian community!

I understand you want to understand the scenario when you hit/exceed the number users limit in Jira cloud. I will try to summarise the same for you, refer below:

  • If you exceed your licensed user count (e.g., by inviting more users than your plan allows), Jira Cloud does not immediately block issue creation for existing users.

  • Instead, newly invited users above your license cap will not be able to access Jira until you upgrade your plan or remove other users.

  • Existing users can continue to use Jira, including creating issues, as long as your subscription is active and paid.

  • If the number of license user is more, you will be charged more in Billing

Refer below articles:

Unable to invite user, restore access or add a user to a group in Jira Cloud

Users and groups check fails with "User limit exceeded in cloud"

I hope this helps, have a good day ahead!

So exceeding the user count only affects the new users? That's interesting

Welcome to Atlassian community!

Thanks. It feels like I've been here forever ;)

BTW the second link applies to migrating users, not regular use of Jira Cloud
