What happened to the Jira Comments?

What's going on with Jira comments?

1. The icons in Jira comments have changed: they are now smaller.

2. The Edit button has moved from the bottom, where it was conveniently located, to the upper right corner, under a 3-dot menu. 

Who comes up with these ideas? This annoyance is similar to when they moved the status transition button from the right side (with all the other related fields) to the left side. The back again. 

Doesn't anyone at Atlassian actually use Jira?

This is new Atlassian GUI update that is being rolled out.

There's actually a new feature request created, based of new GUI update - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-97076

You can vote for this request to happen and don't forget to make yourself as a watcher.

I suggest contacting Atlassian Support directly to report how this change impacts your team's productivity. The more individual reports they receive, the higher the priority this issue becomes.
