Dear Atlassian community,

I hope y'all doing great. lately i've started the learning modules proposed by Atlassian, no body advised me to do so, i feel like the atlassian community came to me lol, immediately after discovering the concept ans services, i felt the urge to start learning about it.

As i mentionned i'm a medical doctor from Algeria north africa, which means all my experience is medicine related.

I would like to Ask you respected members, what path should a CV like mine ride ?

Please feel free to throw your thoughts !

Welcome @Jalil !

Atlassian tools are in different industries, most industries that use it are software industries. Since you are starting to learn the Atlassian modules, you have options like:

  • Atlassian/Jira administrator - high in demand, but the learning modules are not enough if you don't practice doing it by yourself: creating a project, adding users, assigning them project roles, customizing workflows, fields, screens, etc. Since you are starting out, you might wanna look for junior positions. Depending from company to company, additional skills would be needing like groovy scripting (used by ScriptRunner) if they are using DC (data center), APIs (mostly used for integrations with other tools), migrations from Data Center to the Cloud and vice versa. Data center will be gone in 2029, but still scripting skills are required.
  • Project Manager - this takes more than learning everything from the modules, since this is focused on delivery on time which requires more communication skills rather technical skills like admin. Here, you would also need to learn about agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum, SAFe, etc.). I wasn't looking for this field, but I am sure there are junior positions there
  • Scrum Master - similar to project manager, but like the name says, you will be owning the Scrum framework. Difference is, scrum masters don't have the direct authority on delegation of work, project managers do have this.

I would suggest to look on the jobs that are requiring the usage of Atlassian tools and in what matter, and of course what would be something where you would see yourself doing.

@Jalil that depends on the job market in your area. Do a bit of research on it with LinkedIn, with other job sites and based on that you will know.
