Hi Andres,

I see that you have a Jira Software Server 10 user license key in your account. I understand that when trying to install a fresh Jira Server to a new machine, you are getting an error that the license is invalid.   Although this license has just expired on 26 Oct 2019, you should still be able to use it for any version of Jira Software Server released before that date.  Our Server licenses are perpetual, so you can use it here, but you won't be able to upgrade this Jira application to any updated versions released after that date.

That said, you should not be seeing this invalid license key from what I can tell here.  The license key appears to be valid upon inspection.  I would be interested to see what the logs of Jira say when trying to do this.  You can find these in $JIRAHOME/log/atlassian-jira.log This log file will contain much more detailed logs in regards to the error itself as well as other environmental information.  For example, if the database that Jira is connected to is misconfigured and unable to write new data to the database, you might see an error like this since the Jira application is technically unable to save this license key to the new database.  But the web portal for Jira might not tell us this.  The logs of Jira will be better at determining the cause here.

In addition to that log, you can also take a closer look at the $JIRAINSTALL/logs/catalina.out file.  This is an additional log created by the Tomcat container that Jira will use when it starts up.  In some cases this catalina.out log will have some more detailed information about startup errors that might not be recorded in the other log file.

I would be interested to look at these two logs as well if you don't mind sharing them.  I'm afraid you would need to upload these to a service like Google Drive or Dropbox and then share a link with us here in Community, as our Community site does not permit file attachments outside of images.

Please let me know.

Andy

Hi Andres,

Thanks for those logs.  I was unable to find any clear indications of a problem in those logs.  I can see that Jira is starting up, but that also no license is applied here.  I looked up your account, I found you have a Jira Software 10 user starter license.  While this license is expired as of 26 October 2019, that license can still be applied to this version of Jira (8.4.1) since it was released before that date.

Could you let me know what license key you are trying to apply here?  I can remove it from the comment after you post it if need be.  I found that the license key on your account that ends in '3X02ii' does appear to be valid and working on a Jira 8.4.1 version in my test instance.

Please let me know.

Andy
