In Jira, I'm attempting to configure the fields in my workspaces. When I was attempting to add a dropdown field in all of my workspaces, an error seems to be popping up on the bottom-left page. This was a dropdown menu, however, I tried creating other new fields with no success. When I try to save the results, it won't save successfully and when refreshing the page, the field disappears.
The error states, "We couldn't save your changes
We couldn't update the 'Task' work type.
Refresh and try again."
The second time I tried to save the field without refreshing the page, Jira was stuck on a hung, spinning session. This issue has been happening for a little over 30 minutes and I attempted another browser and another machine. Same issue is happening.
Is this error happening with anyone else?
Hello @Deven
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
There don't appear to be any active incidents disrupting service.
What type of Space does this concern?
Are there other users of the system having the same experience?
It's a business space. I'm self-hosting my own Jira account.

You mentioned 'workspaces" (plural). Is this happening in more than one? Are they all Business Spaces? Are they Team-managed or Company-managed?

I just tested the software space. I was able to create a field there, but I'm still unable to create a field in the business space.

Have you tried multiple Business spaces?
Are you working with Team-managed or Company-managed projects?

I tried all of my business spaces and same issue. They're all team-managed.

Ok, here's an update: Only two of my team-managed business spaces turn out to allow additional fields. The rest are coming up with this error:
It's making me think this is a setting issue, which I don't remember changing.

Thank you for that additional information.
Can you provide the exact steps to recreate?
Do you remember which Space templates you used to create each Space? I'm trying to see if it might be related to the template you chose.

I believe it was General Service Management, but I'm not sure. It was the very first option I saw in Made for You when I first signed up with Jira. It seems Made for You changes every so often.
I used to be able to create new fields in all of my spaces in the past. However, today, when I open a ticket>click Configure in the context field>Create a custom field>choose any type of custom field>move it to Context Fields or even keep it in Description Field>name the field and create choices>click Save Changes, the error appears.

General Service Management is not a template that applies to Business Spaces. That template would create a Service Space.
Let us recap.
This is affecting only Business Spaces, not Software Spaces.
This affects all Business spaces.
All the spaces you have are Team-managed.
Since this problem started you have tried creating another Business Team-managed space and you have the same problem in such a newly created space.
In at least some of the affected spaces you were able to create new fields prior to today.
You have tried using a different computer and a different browser application.
There are no other users of the instance who can try the same steps to see if they get the same results.
Is all that correct?
I have tried creating new fields in Team-managed Business spaces in my instance and have not encountered the error you are seeing.
Which browser applications have you tried? Have you tried a private browser window?
Is it possible to add another user to your instance to see if they can recreate the issue?

Most of the info is correct. I have not recently created any new spaces.
I tried using Vivaldi and Brave. Neither browser is working on both of my devices.
I'll get back to you about trying a private window.

Neither of those is a supported browser for Atlassian Cloud apps.
I advice you to try one from this list:

Ok. Good to know. I got FireFox, so I'll try on there.

I tried Firefox and then I tried Vivaldi again. Looks like I'm able to create fields in all my spaces again.
I believe the article talking about browser support, but whatever was going on seems like it was a server issue. I'm guessing not everyone was impacted by it.
Thanks for the help!

You're welcome!
I'm glad it resolved itself.
