We are installing Jira 7.8 will it conflict with my current legacy install we are replacing?

We have been running Jira v6.2 locally for several years.  Rather than upgrade, we would like to install a new version of Jira v7.8 and abandon the old backlogs.

 

Will our license key support this process where for a few days we are running both manually moving key stories from the old Jira site to the new?

When you install 7.8, just make sure you tell it to install in totally different directories to the old one.  You will also need to run it on a different port (change server.xml in the new install)

This also assumes you're working on one server - you might want to check the server is powerful enough to run both Jira systems at the same time.

I also want to mention that you shouldn't use the same license key for both installations. You can use an Evaluation license for the new instance, and then update the details later when you're ready to abandon the Jira 6.2 instance. See information below on how to update the license key when you need to change it from the Evaluation:
