Hi. We want to add an issue type level above epic to be used in Advanced Roadmaps.  When I tried to update the hierarchy to add the new issue type above epic, I got a warning message that said "Moving or changing hierarchy levels of issue types will break existing parent links in all company-managed projects in your site.  This change can't be reversed."  The warning message noted 4 affected issues by this change but all are closed so we are not concerned about them.  My question is - will this change cause issues for other issues besides those 4 issues the warning message noted or can I assume those are the only 4 impacted?

The error messages, and impacted issues are fairly reliable. So I think it's a fair assumption.

My experience from adding an "initiative" level resulted in an addition of a parent link, rather than a modification. Before the change it's something like:

  • Issue 1 - Epic
    • Issue 2 - Story, Parent issue = 1
      • Issue 3 - Sub-task, Parent issue = 2

And after the change:

  • Issue 4 - Initiative
    • Issue 1 - Epic, Parent issue = 4
      • Issue 2 - Story, Parent issue = 1
        • Issue 3 - Sub-task, Parent issue = 2
