Viewing searched issues on an excel-whats the limit?

Hi

1)Whats the limit to number of issues shown up on an excel as against the search filter?

2)If there is a limit(indeed there is a limit), then is it different across different Jira versions?

3) Whats the limit on below versions:

a)Jira version 3.13.2

b)Jira v4.0

c)Jira5.0(upcoming)

4) can we customize the limit by changes in code?

The default limit is 1000 for an excel export, but that's "soft" and you can override it by simply editing the download url. You can impose a hard limit (anyone trying to edit the url over a hard limit then gets a "not allowed" error instead of results), and even a group for people who are allowed to go over the hard limit

There's no difference between versions (although I've not tried 5.0 in anger yet, I doubt it's changed)

You can edit both soft and hard limits in the properties (although, again, I've not looked at 5.0 in detail and it may have moved into the web-UI with other stuff)

Please bear in mind that the limits are there for a reason - The Excel export puts a heavy load on the system. In human terms, 1000 is far too high a number of detailed issues for a human to process, so the only real reason for downloading is reporting, which is often possible within Jira and users just don't know it. It's well worth questioning users about large downloads, as there's almost always a much better way to do what they're aiming for.
