View Screen data entered

Ravi Moorthy October 27, 2021

I created 2 screens.  One of the screens was associated with the in-transition action from "Open" to "Bug being Fixed".  The second one was associated with in-transition action from "Bug being Fixed" to "Testing"

I created a Jira Bug Ticket.  When moving the ticket through the workflow, I was able to enter the details in the 2 screens created.   Now I am in the Issues summary window of Jira and I can see the data only for screen 1 and not screen2

My question is where can I see the data entered into the screen 2 I created.  The issues summary window does not show this.

If you want to display fields on your view screen then you simply need to go to the screens under project settings and find the appropriate screen for your viewing issues and add your desired fields to that screen. Let me know if this is not what you’re looking for.

Thanks Jack for your reply.   It works for transition 1 and I can see the data.  But I am unable to see data from screen 2 associated with transition 2.

Let us say I have a workflow that involves a transition from Open to "Under Development" and then "Bug Identified".   I can now see the data entered when I moved from Open to "Under Development".  I however cannot see in the summary window data from transition between "Under Development" and "Bug Identified".

Im not fully understanding your question. Let me try to share some info in hopes it gets you to your goal. I suspect you understand much of this but bare with me.

Screens in Jira present various info via Fields, either default or custom. There are various screens associated with actions: create, view, edit, transition. You can add any field to any of these action screens by going to project settings > screens. With that said, if you have some fields that are displayed on a transition screen and not the view screen then go to project settings > screens and edit the view screen and add the fields.

Let me make it easier by attaching a screenshot.  On the right side under details,  I can see fields like "Associated SOP" that was under Transition 1 as a field.  However under transition 2, I had 2 fields called "demo1" and "demo 2".  Both these fields are not displayed here.

I am not finding any issues when I execute a workflow.  All the fields are displayed.  The issue is that the data I entered in screens for transitions 2, 3, 4... is not being displayed in the above screenshot.

Are you an admin? Did you follow my instructions and go into project settings > screens and edit the desired view screen?

In your screen do you see “configure” in lower right? If so please click and you should be able to edit the layout and add available fields.

Ravi Moorthy October 27, 2021

Yes Jack, I am admin.

Let us say the only issue type that I have is "bug".  If I now add the field that I had in transition 2 to the screen in project settings, that field gets displayed when i create a bug ticket.  That defeats the purpose as these fields need analysis and can only get answered lower down in the workflow

The "configure" field only displays fields added to either the bug screen or the transition screen after the bug screen

The Screens Settings window states the following:

  • To choose screens that are displayed when issues are created or edited please map the screens to issue operations using Screen Schemes.
  • To select which screen is displayed for a particular workflow transition, please select the workflow the transition belongs to and edit it.

My problem is in point 2.  Correct me if I am wrong but what you are saying is that if I want to see the fields in the issue window then I need to add these fields to the Issue Screen Scheme.  But that is not what I want to do.

But then that defeats the purpose of having screens for workflow transition.   If for the latter I am entering data in fields including attachments, where is that being stored.   Can you answer this question please?

Hi Jack

I found the answer.

Instead of the data being under "Details" as was the transition 1 data, the other transition field data is captured on a field basis under "All" activity.  Its painful.
